Trey Speegle.
I caught the Trey Speegle show in Chelsea on a whim, and I'm happy I got the chance to see it. For this past exhibition, Speegle re-appropriated his collection of vintage paint-by-number sheets into gallery quality work. Originally developed after World War II, paint-by-number sheets were developed for the artistically un-inclined and to nurture the budding artistic skills of children. Though many of the pieces are only beautifully done versions of these sheets, Speegle also includes text in some of the work, oftentimes poking fun of himself or society in general.
Lately, Speegle has been picking up design work with some other notable companies, including some textiles for Anthropologie. Check out his site for more information and some more beautiful work.

The Stratosphere Giant.
This was the world's tallest tree, up until the past month or so... Measures in at 369 feet, twice the height as the Statue of Liberty. For unspecified reasons, the people who found it never gave it's exact local, but it's buried somewhere deep in the Humboldt Redwoods State Park.
(Notice the tiny people climbing the sucker..)
