Marina Abramovic

If you haven't already seen it, there's a big retrospective of Marina Abramovic's work currently at MoMA, entitled "The Artist Is Present". Skip over the Tim Burton exhibit, because this is way more important and powerful, as Abramovic is a legend in performace art. Within the exhibit are several recreations of some of her performance work over her career, as well as videos projected on walls of some of the original performances. One of the pieces, entitled "Imponderabilia", involves two people standing nude within a doorway, forcing people to squeeze between their bodies. Many people have raised questions regarding the piece, as they do not know exactly what it is... Originally performed with her partner Ulay in 1977, the version of "Imponderabilia" at the MoMA is a recreation of that piece, seen here:

Another huge part of the retrospective is Abramovic's continuous performance of a new piece that requires audience participation, as she invites guests to sit across a table from her in complete silence. (During museum hours, you can view a live feed of these goings-ons here). I have yet to do it, as my last trip to the MoMA I found myself feeling under dressed to sit across from a legend, as odd as that may sound.

So, go!

Shouldn't have seen in with the Padre- don't want him to see me voluntarily squeeze between naked men....
